Easy Peasy Vegan Bread Sauce Recipe!

I love a roast dinner! A nicely cooked roast with lots of different veg, crisp roast potatoes and gravy really do hit the spot! Bread sauce always reminds me of my Granny's Christmas dinner which we always had the day after Boxing Day. I always used to buy a packet mix until I realised just how easy it is to make. This is a veganised version, and to me gives that naughty, creamy, indulgent taste and texture that I sometimes miss from a "real" cauliflower cheese.

This recipe can be made in advance and zapped in the microwave for any roast from an average Sunday Dinner to a celebration day meal


600ml soy milk

50g vegan butter, I used Flora Buttery

2 garlic cloves, quartered

1 medium onion, peeled and roughly chopped

8 black peppercorns

8 cloves

1/2 tsp dried thyme

A pinch of ground nutmeg

Salt to taste

80g white breadcrumbs


Put all the ingredients apart from the breadcrumbs into a pan. Bring to a gentle simmer and leave to cook on low for 30 minutes. Drain and retain the liquid with a sieve, and discard the solids

Mix the breadcrumbs into a pan and cook on a low light for around 3 minutes, and serve
